Housing Lakefront and the Danville Housing Authority, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a community that will provide care and treatment to at-risk of homelessness and chronically homeless Veterans and their families.

Over 110 people attended the event which drew six area media teams to the VAIHCS campus. Speakers included Illinois State Senator Scott Bennett (D-52nd District), the Honorable Scott Eisenhower, Mayor of Danville, Mark Angelini, President, Mercy Housing Lakefront, Greg Hilleary, Executive Director, Danville Housing Authority, and Diana Carranza, Acting Director, VAIHCS.

Housing for Homeless Veterans

Review and Repurposing (BURR) initiative identifies unused and underused buildings at existing VA property with the potential to develop new housing opportunities for homeless or at risk Veterans and their families through public-private partnerships and VA's enhanced-use lease (EUL) program.

The project will feature 65 apartments, (1, 2 and 3 bedroom units) on approximately 10.64 acres of land. Horve Construction, out of Forsyth, Illinois, is building the facility. When completed, the services provided at this facility will improve the quality of life for Veterans as well as their access to health care. It will also provide Veterans with supportive services designed to help them achieve greater self-sufficiency.
