Medical Center Director

Shawn M. Bransky was appointed as the Executive Director of the VA Illiana Health Care System, Danville, Illinois on May 26, 2019. He was formerly the Deputy Director of the Phoenix VA Health Care System, Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Bransky had direct oversight of the following services: Fiscal, Logistics, Engineering, Capital Planning, Patient Scheduling/Call Center, Community Managed Care, and Human Resources, with a combined workforce of over 850 staff. The Phoenix VA Healthcare System serves over 91,000 Veterans in Arizona, providing acute medical, surgical, and psychiatric inpatient care with an annualized budget of $900 million. Mr. Bransky began his career with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in 2014, serving as the Chief Fiscal Officer, then Associate Director of the Alaska VA Healthcare System in Anchorage, Alaska. He led a total staff of 228 personnel in several departments, to include Human Resources, Facility Management, Fiscal, Logistics, Public Affairs and Police Operations, supporting health care operations for 34,000 enrolled Veterans throughout the State of Alaska. He has more than 25 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience. Prior to serving Veterans in the VA, he served more than 21 years in the United States Air Force in a variety of leadership positions at both the facility and Headquarter levels, to include Chief Financial Officer, Managed Care Director and Administrator for both medical and surgical clinics, retiring in the grade of Lieutenant Colonel in 2014. His last assignment was Chief Financial Officer and Senior Group Practice Manager for the 673d Medical Group, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. Mr. Bransky earned a BA in Accounting at Mercer University and a Master's degree in Health Administration from Chapman University. He is also the recipient of several military medals to include the Bronze Star following his deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Acting Associate Director

Ms. Kelley Sermak was appointed as Acting Associate Director on March 27, 2020. Ms. Sermak was appointed Acting Director of VAIHCS on July 16, 2018. Ms. Kelley Sermak, RN, MSHSA has served as the Associate Director, Patient Care Services since March 20, 2016. She received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Lakeview College of Nursing, Danville, Illinois, Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Illinois, and a Master of Science Degree in Health Services Administration from the University of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois. Ms. Sermak began her nursing career in 1985 at United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, Illinois. She began her VA career in 2003 at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, Illinois as a Performance Improvement Nurse. In 2008, she went to the VISN 11 Network office in Ann Arbor, MI as the Deputy, Quality Management Officer and went on to become the VISN Quality Management Officer. In 2013, Ms. Sermak went to the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center where she served as the Deputy, Associate Director of Patient Care Services. In 2015, she provided nursing leadership at the West Texas Health Care System, in Big Spring Texas, as the Acting, ADPCS. She also served as the Acting, Associate Director Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive at the Battle Creek VA. Throughout Ms. Sermak's career she has worked with all disciplines to improve the quality of patient care. She is proud of the opportunities she has had to coach and mentor nurses who are now in leadership positions. Ms. Sermak is involved in local and national Nursing Organizations.

Acting Associate Director Patient Care/Nurse Executive

Ms. Anvoots was appointed as Acting ADPCS on March 17, 2020. Ms. Anvoots started her career in the medical field as a Candy Striper at the Cincinnati Children's hospital and has been an RN for 34 years. Ms. Anvoots nursing education began at Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Cincinnati in which she graduated with a Diploma in Nursing. Her past experience consist of working in Nursing Homes, Surgical Floors, Medical-Surgical ICU with level 1 Trauma patients in the private sector. She became an employee at the VA in Indianapolis in 1990 while performing as a Surgical Intensive Care Unit nurse and returned to obtain her BSN from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN in 2003. She then became the BCMA Coordinator at the Indianapolis VA then transitioned over to the Nurse Manager for CBOC and off-sites. While working at the CBOC and at the off-sites, she returned back to school and obtained her MSN in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan in 2012. She then became the Chief Nurse Clinical Support. After 25 years, she transferred to the Bath VAMC where she was the Nurse Manager for PACT and Specialty Care prior to moving to the CBOC Nurse Manager role. After a few years, she decided she missed the Midwest and came to Danville, VAMC as the Chief Nurse of Geriatrics since May 2018.

Chief of Staff

On December 10, 2017 Dr. Dean Shoucair was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the VA Illiana Health Care System. Dr. Shoucair is board certified in Occupational/Preventative/Environmental Medicine. Dr. Shoucair earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and has a BA undergraduate from the University of Michigan and a Master’s degree in public health from the medical college in of Wisconsin. Dr. Shoucair is a U.S. Army Veteran of 34 years of combined active, reserve and National Guard service. He currently serves in the Illinois National Guard as a Colonel.
