Situation Update

As of Friday, April 10, 2020 2:35 PM CDT

For the safety of patients, visitors and staff, VA Illiana Health Care System (VAIHCS) has changed its visitation policy for the main facility in Danville and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Bloomington, Decatur, Mattoon, Peoria and Springfield, to help to limit the spread of the Coronavirus. Effective at 7:00 a.m. (CST), March 18, no visitors of any age will be allowed to enter the medical center or CBOC facilities.

Visitors will be prohibited from entering the medical center unless it is necessary for providing medical care, supporting patient care activities, or visiting under exigent circumstances, such as grave illness or imminent death of a family member under care in the facility.

If you have symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath, call us at 1-888-598-7793 before visiting us. For other concerns, you may be able to access VA care from home by phone or using VA virtual care options.

All Veterans with appointments or scheduled surgery are advised to call before traveling to the medical center. Some outpatient appointments and procedures may be rescheduled.

Enhanced screenings are in place to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors, and staff. Please allow yourself extra time (e.g., 45 minutes) to get onto campus, park and get to your appointments.

Veterans and staff are encouraged to take every day preventative actions to avoid being exposed to the virus:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Stay home if you are sick or becoming sick
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
  • If you have symptoms or have been exposed to someone with symptoms, call the VA before going to the facility

To get answers to questions you have about coronavirus and how VA is responding, visit our Coronavirus FAQs page or read VA's public health response.

If you have symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath, call your VA medical center before going to a clinic, urgent care center, or emergency room. Calling first helps us protect you, medical staff, and other patients.
