VA Illiana Health Care System (VAIHCS) will have a Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) program on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Bldg. 104, Social Activities Room (SAR). As part of educating our staff and community about Diversity in the workplace and continued awareness VA wide, we are proud to be part of a national push in LGBT awareness month. Our focus at VA Illiana through our Diversity Committee is to educate staff, Veterans, and community on the different special emphasis committees we have at the facility.

The guest speaker will be St. Sukie de la Croix an internationally published journalist, columnist, fiction author, playwright and photographer. In Chicago, he has written for Outlines, Windy City Times, Nightlines, Nightspots, Chicago Free Press and Gay Chicago. As a historian, de la Croix has published dozens of articles about Chicago’s gay history, scripted and acted as tour guide on the Chicago Neighborhood Tours gay history bus and written a ten-week series on Chicago’s LGBT history for the Chicago Tribune.

There will also be informational booths from:
-Illinois Safe School of Alliance
-RACES: Rape Advocacy Counseling and education services
-The Greater Community AIDS Project
-Sexual Orientation Diversity Allies
-Up Center, Urbana
-Danville Housing Authority

Musical entertainment will be provided by Ben Jenkins and Eszdee Darnel and refreshments will be served.

Anyone that plans to attend the program is encouraged to use Danville Area Community College entrance and park in front of the Bremer Conference Center. You can then walk to Bldg. 98 and follow the signs to Bldg. 104, Social Activities Room (SAR).

The program is open to the public.
