MOVE Weight Management

Why do so many veterans lose weight and keep it off using MOVE?

MOVE

It’s all about a weight loss method that works and team support.

What is MOVE!
The MOVE! program customizes an approach that will work for you to help you lose weight and keep it off without feeling like you are on a “diet.” Dietitians, exercise therapists, and health behavior coaches will work with each MOVE! veteran to create a customized diet and wellness plan to help you meet your goals. Plans include meal preparation, exercise guidance, and motivation to lose weight. Other plans can be costly, but the MOVE! program is free to all veterans enrolled in VA benefits for as long as you want to participate.

Success Story
Mr. Charles Wilson started MOVE! Group at the Bob Michel Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Peoria weighing 229 lbs in May 2015 and then joined the Be Active and MOVE! (BAM) exercise class in October 2015 at 204 lbs. He has continued to make progress since the conclusion of the 8 week BAM series and achieved a weight of 194 lbs on January 29, 2016 for a total of 35 lbs loss (15% loss) in 8 months.

“The doctor recommended I join the group because some of my levels were borderline so I started going to MOVE!. I followed directions, collected the handouts and would go over them. I was losing 1-2 lbs a week and then I started walking. I started at 3000 steps; right now I try to do 9-10,000 steps every day. I kept attending the meetings and participated as much as I could. I determined I was going to do this and I wouldn’t let things get me down. The main point is you just have to purpose in your mind to get something done.”
