About the Program

Palliative care (pronounced: pal-lee-uh-tiv) is the medical specialty focused on relief of the pain, stress and other debilitating symptoms of serious illness.  Email us: vhadanpalliativecare@va.gov.  

Palliative Care Options

15 bed Inpatient unit

  • Acute symptom management such as uncontrolled pain
  • Support during palliative radiation or chemotherapy
  • Veterans for whom end-of-life care needs cannot be met in the home

Outpatient Clinic

  • Pain management
  • Emotional and spiritual support
  • Practical guidance
  • Bereavement counseling

Telepalliative Clinic

  • Palliative Care Clinic appointment by television
  • From VA clinics in Peoria, Decatur, Springfield, Mattoon

Inpatient consultation

  • Guidance with treatment options
  • Complex medical decisions
  • Psychosocial and spiritual support
