Social Work

About the Program

Social Work at VA Illiana Health Care System is an integral part of health care. We help veterans and their families with problems associated with the stress of an illness. Social Work Service’s (SWS) primary function is to eliminate psychosocial complications as significant barriers to healthcare interventions for patients and families. Staff are trained to assess and treat the patient’s psychosocial condition which encompasses social, psychological, family, economic and environmental problems the patient may be experiencing in relation to their hospitalization, illness or disability. Unresolved, these problems create barriers to treatment, hinder patients’ recovery and further increase health care costs through increased length of stay and episodes of care.

Social workers help veterans find resources to meet their needs within the VA system and in their community such as:

  • Home health services
  • Legal services
